Charlotte Heads to Cary for Regular Season Finale
Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte Eagles (8-3-2, 26 pts) will travel to Cary, NC to take on North Carolina FC U23 (5-6-2, 17 pts) on Friday night.
The Eagles will need a win on Friday night to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs after Nashville SC U23 won on Wednesday night. Nashville sits two points ahead of the Eagles and currently in the second-place spot.
The last time Charlotte and NCFC U23 met, a Ryan Williams free-kick in the 29th minute and a late Joao Costa insurance goal gave the Eagles the 2-0 lead. James Pyle made seven saves to record his third clean sheet of the PDL season.
Costa scored again in Charlotte’s most recent match, a 2-1 win over Carolina Dynamo on Tuesday night. Costa now leads the team in scoring with nine goals and two assists on the season. Andrew Pannenberg made his season debut and recorded nine saves in the victory.
NCFC U23 last played on Tuesday night and lost 3-0 to the Myrtle Beach Mutiny. Will Pulisic got the start for the U23 side and made five saves on the night.
Ryan Spaulding leads NCFC U23’s in scoring with five goals and one assist in 10 matches.
If Charlotte wins on Friday night they will travel to Statesboro, Ga where the Eastern Conference Playoffs are being held. Charlotte will join the Myrtle Beach Mutiny along with play-in winners from the Mid-Atlantic Division and Northeast Division.
