Charlotte Hosts Tobacco Road FC for 25th Anniversary Celebration

Charlotte, NC – The Charlotte Eagles (5-1-1, 16 pts) will host Tobacco Road FC (3-3-2, 11 pts) on Saturday night at Charlotte Christian Stadium at 7 pm. Charlotte returns to the field following a 3-0 win last Saturday at the Carolina Dynamo.

Charlotte and Tobacco met earlier this season back on May 25th up in Durham where the Eagles came away with a 4-1 road victory. Kelvin Omondi scored a first half hat-trick to set the pace for Charlotte and Ryan Williams added the fourth goal in the second half.

Tobacco Road last played on Wednesday night in a thrilling 4-4 draw at home against the Wilmington Hammerheads. Tobacco went down 4-1 in the 63rd minute, but didn’t wait long to respond as German Mendoza scored in the 67th, Jonathan Ray scored the second of his two goals on the night a minute later to make it 4-3, Hammerheads. A Jared Rist 90th minute equalizer rescued a point for Tobacco Road as the center back received a pass before calmly slotting the ball past Hammers keeper Andrew Romig.

The Eagles traveled to Greensboro to take on the Dynamo on June 10th in their most recent PDL match. The game was scoreless at the break but Head Coach Dave Dixon’s halftime talk must have inspired the boys as David Koloko found Kelvin Omondi in the 47th minute to break the 0-0 deadlock. Joao Costa doubled the visitor’s advantage after Derick Gonzalez was taken down in the Dynamo penalty area in the 50th minute. Charlotte added a late insurance goal as Mutaya Mwape, #9 on the PDL Top Prospects List, opened his Eagles account in the 81st minute. James Pyle recorded his second clean sheet of the season, his ninth career clean sheet for Charlotte.

This Saturday will also serve as a celebration of the 25 seasons in Charlotte Eagles history. Past players from both the Men’s team and Women’s team, who are celebrating their 18th season, will provide the halftime entertainment with a 6v6 Legends Game.
