Eagles Pick Up Road Win against Tormenta

Eagles Take Another Step Towards South Atlantic Division Title with Road Win

July 9, 2016

Statesboro, GA -- The Charlotte Eagles (10-2-1, 31 pts) earned a 3-0 win over Tormenta FC (6-5-1, 19 pts) Saturday night in Georgia. The win puts the Eagles one step closer to back to back South Atlantic Division titles and the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference. Charlotte will close out the regular season at home next Saturday, July 16 against the Tri-Cities Otters.

Each team had chances in the first half but Tormenta goalkeeper Alex Guerra and Eagles keeper Will Pyle stood tall in net to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0 at the half. Following the intermission the Eagles seemed to reach another gear that Tormenta couldn't match.

Santi Moar opened the scoring in the 52nd minute as Quamie Dinnall, who had come on shortly before to replace an injured Jaime Siaj, combined with Wilfred Williams just outside the penalty area, before he found Moar at the penalty spot. Moar's first attempt was blocked by Guerra but Moar reacted quickly as he got to his feet and volleyed the rebound home to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.

Charlotte was content to enjoy their possession after the goal and wait for their moment to counter attack Tormenta.

In the 77th minute the Eagles would string together 17 passes that would see eight different Eagles touch ball before Ryan Williams found second half sub Kelvin Omondi to put the visitors up 2-0.

Charlotte added a third goal in the 82nd minute as they caught Tormenta on the counter. Ryan Williams sprung Dinnall on the break out wide right before finding Omondi in the box. Omondi took a couple touches to give himself some space before sending his shot over Guerra's head and extending the lead to 3-0.
